In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In vitro fertilization (IVF), also known as test-tube baby treatment, involves retrieving eggs from the ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in the laboratory, and then transferring the resulting embryos into the uterus.
How It Works:
- Ovarian Stimulation: Hormonal medications are given to stimulate the production of multiple eggs.
- Egg Retrieval: Eggs are collected under light sedation using an ultrasound-guided needle.
- Fertilization: Sperm and eggs are combined in the lab to allow fertilization.
- Embryo Transfer: Developing embryos are implanted into the uterus after a few days.
Benefits:

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

- Instead of allowing natural fertilization, a skilled embryologist selects a single sperm and injects it into each egg using a powerful microscope.

When It Is Used:
ICSI is used when there is a severe issue with sperm quantity or motility, presence of anti-sperm antibodies, failure of fertilization in previous IVF cycles, or when sperm must be surgically retrieved (e.g., TESE).
Success Rates:
When combined with IVF, the success rate is similar to or slightly higher than traditional IVF, especially in cases of poor sperm quality.

- Woman’s Age: As age increases, so does the need for more advanced techniques like IVF.
